The Music Man - The Train is a Comin'

It's HERE! Don't miss the opportunity to see BLT's big summer musical, THE MUSIC MAN. And when I say big, I mean a talented cast of 70, our largest, multi-generational cast ever!

MM logo_528

From the Director:

"We are very excited to be working with this group - they are huge (70!), but amazingly attentive, cooperative, and enthusiastic. We have lots and lots of multi-generational family groups involved, as well as several people who are new to BLT, and some new to theatre in general, who have come out to participate because they've always loved and wanted to be a part of this particular show. I think the light-hearted, nostalgic feel will really appeal to audiences as well, particularly now, when everyone needs to be reminded of good things and fun times. Our leads, Nick and Amy, are both new to the BLT stage, but have already hit the ground running, and we are certain they will be show stoppers."

-Katie Deese

Shows are August 7th-9th and 14th-16th. Evening performances at 7:30 and Sunday matinees at 3:00. For tickets call the Odell Williamson Box Office at 910-755-7416. For more info call Thom Clemmons @ 524-4869.

Please tune in to WHQR 91.3 FM on Wednesday, August 5th at 12:15 PM and you can hear a live interview with Music Man Directors Mark and Katie Deese.

Don't Miss Dracula - Halloween Weekend

Brunswick Little Theatre's weekend offering is an enormously dracula successful revival of this classic opened on Broadway in 1977 fifty years after the original production. This is one of the great mystery thrillers and is generally considered among the best of its kind. Lucy Seward, whose father is the doctor in charge of an English sanitarium, is attacked by a mysterious illness. Dr. Van Helsing, a specialist, believes that the girl is the victim of a vampire, a sort of ghost that goes about at night, sucking blood from its victims. The vampire is at last found to be a certain Count Dracula, whose ghost is at last laid to rest in a striking and novel manner. The play is for all who love thrills in the theater.

"Pure escape and great fun." N.Y. Post

Searching for Sylvia

Get in on the fun with Brunswick Little Theatre's upcoming production of Sylvia, a hilarious man-loves-dog comedy about a couple, having recently moved to Manhattan, who find their relationship turned on its head when Greg (the husband) brings home Sylvia, (a stray poodle/lab mix) from the park. Kate (the wife), a teacher whose new writing career is beginning to take off, is completely threatened when Sylvia becomes the new object of Greg's desire.

Sylvia, the schmaltzy mutt with the big heart, and a heaping helping of ATTITUDE is caught in the crossfire between the object of her desire, and her nemesis Kate, who just wants her out of the picture completely. The close-to-home dynamics of the characters drive this show from start to finish and make for one good rollicking, irreverent good time.

The Brunswick Little Theater, as a pre-performance warm-up, would like for you to help us find our own local version of Sylvia, a dog of sound mind, questionable heritage, pompous attitude, and unflappable heart. We are even offering a $50 reward to the person whose dog most mirrors our famous mix-of-a-mutt, Sylvia. Instructions on how you may enter are as follows........

Contest begins February 4th, 2008

How to enter:

1. You must be at least 18 years of age and a resident of Brunswick County.

2. Send us an email with a photo of your dog attached (no larger than 600X400px please) Tell us briefly why you think your precious mutt fits the bill. If you are unable to send via computer, entries can be mailed to Vicki Burton, 211 N. Lord Street, Southport, NC 28461.

3. Deadline for receipt of all entries is March 1, 2008

All entries will be displayed here on this blog where you and the general public can help us select our real-live Sylvia. Further voting instructions will follow when the final ballot is placed here on the blog.

The winner will be announced on Saturday, March the 8th during the show at Odell Williamson Auditorium. (Show starts at 7:30)

Please join the fun and email your entries to brunswicklittletheatre@gmail.com

Here are the Contestants for "Searching for Sylvia"

Thanks to all who submitted. Thi
s is one great-looking batch of dogs. All pictures were edited and enhanced for best display on this web site. Descriptions given by the owner were condensed to the space allowed. Our winner will be announced in unique fashion during the intermission of this Saturday evening's production of Sylvia at Odell Williamson Auditorium. In alphabetical order they are:

Artie - According to his owner he's part licky and part stupid. His favorite seat in the house is the couch. Everyone who visits finds this out early in visit. It's his seat and he doesn't like giving it up.

Bear - Bear is a dog with a lot of attitude. He loves to wrestle and he doesn't like to lose. People will drive by and honk and wave at him and the UPS guy stops by and plays with him at least once a week.

Bella - Bella can jump 5 feet high. All her owners have to ask her is "Bella do you want to go fishing?" and she starts jumping like a kangaroo. She walks on the beach 3 miles a day and she has lots of friends.

Finnigan - Finnigan is the official greeter on the Bald Head Island Passenger Ferry.

Jenny - Jenny lives with 2 cats and a baby. She has the patience of Job and loves everyone. She likes long walks on the beach and “movie time” with the family.

Maggie - She is a rescue from Katrina; she is a schnoodle (part schnauzer and part poodle); is the sweetest girl in the world but definitely has some "attitude" when required!

Please vote only once......and good luck to ALL!
