Brunswick Little Theatre presents … Nunsense II

Nunsense II logo_500

It's HERE!!! For all you Nunsense lovers. The sisters of Hoboken are back and I do mean back! NUNSENSE II: THE SECOND COMING could easily be subtitled "the rest of the story." The sequel to the international hit musical NUNSENSE takes place approximately six weeks after the first "benefit performance."

Director Thom Clemmons says he very grateful to his extremely talented actors, staff, and crew saying, " Ron Veenker, whose own experiences being raised in theater and as a musician and actor, makes him a fine musical director who understands the needs of other actors.  Bev Veenker also grew up in theater and dance.  Her extensive experience as a professional dancer, dance teacher, teacher and choreographer for over 40 years brings to life the intent of a song through movement.  Paul Bertelsen, who was once a set and light designer and stage manager on Broadway, has once again created with Vic Guarino a set that is both beautiful and actor friendly, allowing them to enhance their performances with a great use of space.  Joyce Mahoney and her staff have provided beautiful and very workable costumes and props that allow the actors to work with a greater sense of completeness.   And in the tech booth, we have Frank Blackmon as our lighting designer and Katie Deese as our sound designer.  The workjen of both completes the theatrical experience the audience."

The six performances will run at 7:30 on Friday and Saturday, April 13, 14, 20, 21, with 3pm Sunday matinees April 15 and 22. Advance tickets available through the Odell Williamson Auditorium . Adults - $17 and $15 for students. Not recommended for children under 12.

BLT Presents Neil Simon's Barefoot in the Park

What do you get when have two newlyweds  as they begin married life in a tiny fifth floor walkup apartment in a mid-Manhattan brownstone, an eccentric neighbor, the bride's very proper mother, a telephone repairman, and a delivery man coming in and out? You get Brunswick Little Theatre's production of  Neil Simon's hilarious BAREFOOT IN THE PARK at Playhouse 211. This romantic comedy, with direction and scenic design by Broadway veteran Paul Bertelsen, focuses on newlyweds, Corie and Paul Bratter (Lisa Henderson and Riley Ransom). Paul is a strait-laced attorney, and Corie is a far more spontaneous free spirit. The young couple must contend with a lack of heat, a skylight that leaks snow, five long flights of stairs, eccentric  neighbor Victor Velasco (Doug Dodson) , and Corie's well-meaning mother, Mrs. Banks (Ginny Quaglia). Providing some very humorous scenes are Pete McLintock as the telephone repairman and Paul Bertelsen as the delivery man who have to maneuver the long stairs several times.  BAREFOOT IN THE PARK addresses the fixed attitudes concerning marriage with Neil Simon's typical blend of humor, sarcasm, and real human emotion. Tickets $17/Adults - $12/Students at Playhouse 211.

In a word … HILARIOUS!
putnam poster_520
THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE is a hilarious tale of overachievers' angst chronicling the experience of six adolescent outsiders vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime. It is the unlikeliest of hit musicals about the unlikeliest of heroes: a quirky, yet charming cast of outsiders for whom a spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time. All the "kids" are played by adults. This is a very clever and funny show, with audience members pulled in to participate. Don’t miss it!

*For mature audiences only - not suitable for children.

The Music Man - The Train is a Comin'

It's HERE! Don't miss the opportunity to see BLT's big summer musical, THE MUSIC MAN. And when I say big, I mean a talented cast of 70, our largest, multi-generational cast ever!

MM logo_528

From the Director:

"We are very excited to be working with this group - they are huge (70!), but amazingly attentive, cooperative, and enthusiastic. We have lots and lots of multi-generational family groups involved, as well as several people who are new to BLT, and some new to theatre in general, who have come out to participate because they've always loved and wanted to be a part of this particular show. I think the light-hearted, nostalgic feel will really appeal to audiences as well, particularly now, when everyone needs to be reminded of good things and fun times. Our leads, Nick and Amy, are both new to the BLT stage, but have already hit the ground running, and we are certain they will be show stoppers."

-Katie Deese

Shows are August 7th-9th and 14th-16th. Evening performances at 7:30 and Sunday matinees at 3:00. For tickets call the Odell Williamson Box Office at 910-755-7416. For more info call Thom Clemmons @ 524-4869.

Please tune in to WHQR 91.3 FM on Wednesday, August 5th at 12:15 PM and you can hear a live interview with Music Man Directors Mark and Katie Deese.
